Nikah at Noor Ul Islam

Noor Ul Islam not only performs registered marriages but performs the Nikah ceremony also. You can have the Nikah ceremony performed by one of our Imam’s at the Noor Ul Islam Masjid or if you prefer, arrangements can be made to have the ceremony performed at a place of your choice.

Procedure
Please download Form 2 for Nikah from the Downloads Marriage section. Complete all sections of the form then return it to the Noor Ul Islam office.The form will be processed and you will then be notified of an appointment for your Nikah ceremony.

Fees & Certificates
If you require a Nikah certificate there is a fee of £15, payable to Noor Ul Islam.

Please note that an official Nikah certificate for the ceramony can only be issued by Noor Ul Islam on production of a Civil Marriage Certificate.



Marriage at Noor Ul Islam


Following changes in the Marriage Act mean that couples can now choose in which Register Office / Building (England & Wales) they wish to be married in, irrespective of where they live. Both parties must reside in England & Wales when "Notice for Marriage" is given.

Noor Ul Islam Masjid not only performs Nikah but is also recognised and registered with the Superintendent Registrar to solemnise marriages. This authority to perform registered marriages was given to Noor Ul Islam Masjid by the Superintendent Registrar on 21st April 1998.

Notice of Marriage

Notice of marriage must be given to the superintendent registrar at least 22 days prior to marriage by certificate and 48 hours for marriage by license. Where the man and the woman live in different registration districts they have to give separate notices in both districts. A deposit along with both parties identification will be required by the superintendent registrar. You must inform the superintendent registrar that you want to be married in NOOR UL ISLAM.

 

Authority to Marry

 

This authority will be given to you by the superintendent registrar. It must be collected by you and handed to Mr. Yusuf Hansa as soon as possible to arrange a time for marriage.

Form 1 & 2
Please complete Form 1 for registration and Form 2 for Nikah. These forms should be handed with the authority to marry, to Mr. Yusuf Hansa prior to the marriage ceremony together with the appropriate fee.

Rules to Be Observed
1. Women are requested to comply fully with Islamic dress code and in particular to cover their heads.

2. Photographs and video cameras are STRICTLY NOT to be taken inside the Mosque.

3. Please conduct yourself in a manner befitting a place of worship.

4. No shoes are to be worn within the Mosque and there is floor seating only.

5. No food or drink can be consumed in the Mosque.

6. Please avoid speaking with raised voices.

 

On The Day of Your Marriage
Please be punctual. The bride and the bridegroom should arrive at the Mosque 20 minutes prior to the appointed time of marriage. It is your responsibility to provide at least two witnesses at your marriage.

Before the ceremony begins the bride and the bridegroom will be seen in private to check all particulars and to collect fees.

Noor Ul Islam Marriage Certificates & Fees
One copy will be given free of charge; each additional copy will be charged for.

The "Marriage Registration" fee is £50 if the ceremony is Monday to Thursday or £100 if from Friday to Sunday.

Please note that the preferred method of payment for is cash or cheque.

 

The Marriage Ceremony
The ceremony will be conducted at Noor Ul Islam in the presence of the bride, groom and the witnesses.

The bridge and groom in turn will be asked to declare that they do not know of any lawful reason why they should not be married to each other.

Then they will be asked to repeat the following:
"I DO SOLEMNLY DECLARE THAT I KNOW NOT OF ANY LAWFUL IMPEDIMENT WHY I (YOUR NAME) MAY NOT BE JOINED IN MATROMONY TO (WIFE’S/HUSBAND’S NAME)."

They will thereafter be asked to repeat the following:

"I CALL UPON THESE PERSONS HERE PRESENT TO WITNESS THAT I (YOUR NAME) DO TAKE (WIFE’S/HUSBAND’S NAME) TO BE MY LAWFUL WEDDED WIFE/HUSBAND.

This will complete the marriage ceremony.
