Body Scanners

The Noor Ul Islam Women Advisory Board has instigated a petition against the compulsory use of Body scanners at the airports.

These body scanners produce an image of the naked body and detect any metal objects.

Currently, these are being used at Terminal Four, Heathrow airport and passengers selected must go through a body scan.

Our concerns largely stem from the intrusion of privacy this poses to us as individuals. We are calling for the British government to reconsider the introduction of body scanners.

Our grounds for this opposition are to do with human privacy and dignity, these scans will produce virtual 3D images leaving nothing to the imagination. We are asking for the personal privacy and dignity of the individual to be maintained. There is no guarantee that the images will not be stored and viewed by the opposite gender. We must prevent our right to privacy being taken away from us. The European Parliament has not approved the use body scanners and we must show our support for this opposition.

The introduction of body scanners has been in the name of increased security to prevent attacks, however there is no substantial evidence to suggest that these scanners are effective.

We therefore call upon the government to look at security measures other than body scanners.

The attached petition should be completed and sent to Noor Ul Islam Women Advisory Board by 28th February 2010. This petition will be sent to the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown.

As pointed out by one of our readers, there is also an online petition (not by Noor Ul Islam) at the following address which should also be publicised:

I am totally against the idea of body scans which produce the naked images of the body. Yes I agree with the security of the human being. In this advance age and time there should other kinds of equipments to be used for this purpose which preserve the respect and dignity of all the human fellows, irrespetive to their religion and creed.

Salam alaikum, I would like to suggest the admin team to start an e-petition, which can be more easily forwarded and many many more people could sign the petition before sending it to the Prime Minister. I suppose most women would support this and they do not have time to travel to all their friends all over the country. I could email it to at least 30 sisters who are in contact with many others, that`s easily a 100 names within few days…

Please consider this suggestion, in the past I participated in many e-petitions which were succesful. May Allah reward you for your effort to forbid evil and enjoin good.

  21. Umm Ammar Says:

Assalamu alaikum, alhamdulillah somebody has already started the online petition on the `official site of the Prime Minister’s Office`.

See below, copy, paste and send to your contacts.
